Choreographer-turned-actor Harikumar is back with another commercial entertainer: Bodinayakanur Ganesan. As the title indicates, the film takes place in a small village Bodinayakanur, near Madurai. Ganesan (Harikumar) is a local drug peddler who can bash up multiple goons singlehandedly. But at the same time, he has a heart of gold and is ready to help the needy in time. Ganesan is the loyal servant of the heartless Thiruvaach (Sairavi), a spoilt brat and son of a local big shot. Ganesan is very fond of his mentally-challenged brother Kottaiyan (Tirupathi).
One day, Ganesan comes across nurse Saraswathi (Arundhati) and obviously it's love at first sight for him. But Saraswathi urges him to earn his livelihood through respectable means. Interestingly, Saraswathi is Thiruvaachi's cousin (aunt's daughter). Now comes the twist. Tiruvaachi takes immense pleasure in sending Ganesan to prison. Reason? The director comes up with a string flashback to explain Thirvaachi's hatred. So watch out for Bodinayakanur Ganesan!
Bodinayakanur Ganesan is the kind of stuff we have seen so many times, with some unexpected twist, old wine in a new bottle! Harikumar excels as a dancer but is still far away from acting. He has to work hard on his facial expressions and body language. Arundhati, who made her debut through Veluthu Kattu, doesn't have much scope to perform. Tirupathi, the boy who acts as the innocent, mentally challenged Kottaiyan, is appealing. The rest of the star cast is adequate. John Peter's music is just average with the song 'Vanchara meen thundu' standing out. Director Gnanam has come up with a cliched story that we have been seeing onscreen for ages
