Venu Aravind's debut directorial venture Sabash Sariyana Potti has been making headlines for quite some time. Jayaram, Sriram Karthik, Sriranjini and Delhi Ganesh appear in the lead roles. Here we bring you an exclusive review of the film...
The Plot
Sabash Sariyana Potti narrates the story of a leading Tamil super star JR (Jayaram) who one day decides to join politics. When he goes to Madurai to attend a wedding reception, he receives a tumultuous welcome and a crazy fan Gnana Guru (Sriram Karthik) joins him on his way back to Chennai, which results in a hilarious joy ride.
Guru, as he is fondly called, later finds out that his matinee idol, whom he has worshipped since childhood, is an altogether different person in his real life. After a series of incidents, JR throws Guru out of his house! Guru now decides to achieve success and participates in a reality show 'Sabaash Sariyana Potti'. Unfortunately, JR is the special judge of that show. What happens next forms the rest of the story.
The Verdict
Venu Aravind's story is quite different from regular Tamil cinema, but the weak narration and dragging screenplay makes the film less interesting. Produced by V.R. Raghunathan, the movie is enjoyable only in parts. Veteran actor Jayaram has done a pretty decent job but the rest of the star cast is just adequate. Since the film is based on a reality show, at many points we get the feel of a telefilm.
